Warning: Bought a laser level that was way off from the factory

Checked it against my old string line on a 40 foot run in Seattle and it was off by almost an inch. Has anyone else had issues with cheap laser levels drifting right out of the box?

An inch off on a 40 foot run (in Seattle no less, with all that damp weather) is wild for something that's supposed to be level from the factory. That's basically useless for any real project, even just hanging shelves. Makes you wonder if they even bother to check these things before boxing them up.

Right? An inch off is totally unacceptable. I had a 6 foot level from the same brand that was off by almost a quarter inch right out of the plastic wrap. Checked it against a known flat wall and a piece of glass, both dead on, and the level was just garbage. Made me double check every single level I own after that.

Yeah but did you measure it yourself or just trust the box?
