Wasted $600 on a drone that kept crashing on site surveys

I bought a DJI Mini 3 Pro to do roof inspections and site progress photos for my small crew. First week, it got tangled in a tree branch and took a swim in a retention pond. Ended up paying $200 to have a pro come out and fix it, and I still don't trust it for anything but open fields. Anyone else had a drone give them nothing but headaches on a jobsite?

Did you practice with it much before taking it to a real jobsite?

The thing nobody talks about is how drones mess with your liability insurance. If that thing falls on someone's car or god forbid a person, your regular contractor policy probably won't cover it. I'd check your coverage before worrying about the crash issues.

And @wood.uma is right that practice matters too, because even a pro pilot can hit a tree branch.
