Almost dropped a load because I skipped the daily wire rope inspection

I ran 4 lifts without checking the cable last Tuesday and found a broken strand on the third wrap, so now I triple check every morning, has anyone else gotten sloppy and nearly paid for it?

Ran 4 lifts without checking the cable" man that gave me chills just reading it. I did something similar a few years back on a Saturday rush job and missed a kink that nearly snapped on the third pick. Now I keep a printed checklist on a clipboard right by the control panel and run through it every single time, no exceptions. It feels stupid slow at first but after you almost crap your pants once, you learn real quick.

Used to think checklists were for new guys or people who were just slow. Told myself I had all the steps memorized and didn't need to be that careful. Then I watched a buddy get his rigging all twisted up cause he skipped one cable check and the load shifted bad. Took a chunk out of the concrete floor and nearly took his foot with it. Printed a laminated checklist the next morning and I haven't skipped a single step since. That moment is burned in my head.
