Always thought boom angle indicators were just a fancy gadget...

I used to ignore the boom angle indicator on my crane, figured I could eyeball it just fine after 10 years on the job. Then last month I was setting a steel beam on a job in Nashville, felt the load start to shift weird. Glanced down and saw I was 3 degrees off where I thought I was... caught it just before things got hairy. That little screen saved me from a mess, I'll admit it now. Anybody else have a tool they laughed off until it proved itself?

Eyeballing it, huh? Almost eyeballed yourself right into a lawsuit.

Eyeballed yourself right into a lawsuit" is a great way to put it. Do you think contractors like that rely on this "eh, close enough" approach for everything, or was this just a one-off lazy day?
