Had a nightmare job on a Liebherr LTM 1050 last Thursday down in Houston

We were setting HVAC units on a 5-story rooftop and the wind picked up out of nowhere around 2pm. Gusts hit 35 mph according to my anemometer and I had to abort the last pick because the load started swinging bad. The GC was yelling at me to just set it down but I told them no way, safety first. Has anyone else had to shut down a job mid lift because of sudden weather changes?

Saw something on the news about wind shear causing crane accidents, really makes you think.

Wind shear might be less of a worry if cranes came with their own little seatbelts, huh?

Right? I saw that same story and it made me stop and think about all the construction I drive past every day. There's a huge crane near my apartment and now I catch myself looking up at it whenever the wind picks up, wondering if they're keeping an eye on things. Makes you realize how much trust we put in all that metal and engineering just swaying up there.
