Had a perfect crane day last Wednesday on a 12-story job in Austin
Everything just lined up - zero wind, clear line of sight, and the steel crew was actually on time for once. We set all 18 beams by 2 PM without a single re-rig which never happens around here. Any of you guys ever have a day where literally nothing went wrong and it felt weird?

That 18 beams in one day is solid work but 12 stories usually means a taller crane than what you'd use for a standard 12 story residential job. Just a heads up, the height of the building doesn't always equal the crane's reach if you're working on a setback or tight site. Still sounds like a great day, what kind of rig were you running?

Oh man, that's like when the universe is just TESTING you for a few minutes to see if you'll actually relax. My luck on perfect days is usually followed by a blown hose or a radio that dies at the worst time. Bet you spent the whole afternoon waiting for the other shoe to drop and kept staring at the boom like it was gonna fall over any second. Nothing more suspicious than everything actually working on a jobsite.

Ha, you're totally right. I used to think that perfect job site days were just a sign of good planning or whatever. But after reading what you and @erickelly said about the crane reach and the stress of waiting for the other shoe to drop, I get it now. You're basically saying the universe is just setting you up for a laugh, and that's all I'm gonna see from now on when things go too smoothly. Honestly, your point about staring at the boom waiting for it to fall is way too accurate. I used to just enjoy the quiet, but now I'm gonna be paranoid the whole time.
