PSA: Chokers are not rated for the load, but for your mistakes, and I got that backwards for 6 years
Honestly, I always figured the working load limit on a choker was for the weight of the load, period, so I'd run the math and call it good. Then a guy named Dale at a job down in Baton Rouge watched me rig a 4,000 lb pipe and said the choker rating drops to 75 percent of the vertical capacity, meaning my 70 percent efficient setup was already cooked before I even picked it up. Ngl, that one number changed how I read the chart forever. Anyone else get taught choker angle by the tag or did you have to learn it the hard way on site?
