Rigging calculator app vs my gut on a 12 ton pick yesterday
Used that load chart app for a skip in Hoboken and it said my spreader bar setup was fine, but the boom angle felt wrong all the way up and I bailed early. The thing never accounts for wind gusts off the Hudson, so I'm back to doing the math on paper first. Anyone else trust their feel over the software when the conditions get weird?

The app probably uses a static wind load table, which is fine for a parking lot in Ohio but useless when the gusts off the Hudson start doing their own thing. That gut feeling you got is just your brain doing the math the app cant, comparing the boom angle against the actual flex you can see in the rigging. Also, most of those calculators assume a perfectly level pick, and that Hoboken site is never level. You made the right call bailing. The app is a reference, not a foreman.
