Shoutout to the old head in Baltimore who made me load charts by hand before letting me touch the computer
Back in 2009 I thought punching numbers into the onboard computer made load charts pointless. The guy training me in Baltimore made me figure every chart by hand for my first two months, and I hated it. Then we had a pick where the computer read the boom angle wrong by 3 degrees and I caught it before anything moved. Now half the new guys on site can't tell me the capacity at 40 feet without looking at a screen. Do you all still check the paper chart first, or am I just old?
Tbh the fact that half the new guys can't tell you the capacity at 40 feet without a screen is kinda scary. But hey, at least they know how to restart the computer when it freezes, right? That's a skill too I guess.
