Swinging blind around a corner in Boston, fixed with a rope trick

I had to set steel on a tight rooftop job in Boston last month where the building next door blocked my view of the landing zone the whole time. I tried using a spotter on the radio but the lag was making me overcorrect every swing, so I tied a bright orange rope to the hook with a weight on the end and let it hang low. Watching that rope's angle instead of guessing from the cab got me lined up perfect on the third try. Has anyone else tried a simple plumb line like that for blind picks, or do you use something fancier?
