The load chart isn't a suggestion, it's a rule
I keep seeing guys at sites in Phoenix eyeballing their lifts instead of checking the chart. Last month I watched a guy try to pick 12,000 pounds at a 50 foot radius on a Grove RT530E rated for 9,000 at that reach. He almost tipped it. How do you handle pushback from operators who think they know better than the numbers?

Watched a guy dump a 50-ton crane in Phoenix last year doing the same exact thing.

Oh man, that is brutal. What finally worked for me was just slowing wayyy down with the boom and making sure the load is perfectly centered before lifting more than a couple feet. Quick checks saved me from a tip over once.

See it all the time not just with cranes but with people in general. Everyone thinks they can cut corners until the whole thing comes crashing down. Had a buddy try to move a loaded bookshelf by himself last month, tipped it right over and cracked the drywall. Same energy as that crane operator thinking he could skip the outriggers or rush the lift. The big stuff always punishes you for getting sloppy, whether its a 50 ton crane or just a heavy couch.
