Warning: the load charts I learned on didn't have a single capacity block for wind
Found out from an old timer at a bar in Duluth that the charts we used back in the 90s didn't factor wind into capacity at all, just boom angle and radius. He pulled out a laminated card from 1987, and sure enough, no wind block anywhere on it. Now every chart I see has a whole grid for it, and I wonder how many close calls back then were just luck. Did any of you work off those older charts, and how did you handle a gusty day?
What did the old guys actually do when the wind picked up, just stop the lift and wait it out? Curious if there was a rule of thumb or if it was all gut feel. Seems like a lot of trust in the operator back then.
