Can we talk about those $35 credit score repair apps?

I spent $60 on this app called CreditFix that promised to boost my score in 30 days. All it did was show me my TransUnion report which I can already get for free lol. The tips were just basic stuff like pay your bills on time and lower your balance. Total waste of money and I feel dumb for falling for it. Has anyone actually had luck with one of those apps or are they all scams?

Yeah "boost my score in 30 days" is a huge red flag. No app can legally change what's on your credit report unless it's the actual credit bureau fixing a mistake. Those apps are basically just a fancy wrapper for free credit monitoring you could get elsewhere.

Respectfully, "no app can legally change what's on your credit report" is misleading since those apps work by reporting positive payment history.

respectfully, 'no app can legally change what's on your credit report' is misleading" - hold up but is it really though? those apps can report payment history but only for bills you already pay on time, so what's the actual value add? i tried one called Credit Hero and it just asked me to link my streaming services and phone bill, then said my score went up 3 points. but that was just because Experian Boost does the same thing for free. so the question is, are these apps actually doing anything you couldn't google in 5 minutes or get from a free credit monitoring site? because i'm still waiting for someone to show me one that actually fixes a legit mistake on your report or removes a collections account. that's the real help people need, not a score tick from reporting your netflix payment.
