My brother-in-law, a mechanic, asked me why I was so stressed about my 620 credit score.
He said, 'Man, I bought my first house with a repo on my report and a score lower than that, you just gotta find the right program.' We were just grilling burgers, but him being so casual about it totally shifted my view on what's possible. Has anyone else had a simple chat that flipped their thinking on what credit you actually need to buy?

Told my loan officer about my old car loan mess and she just shrugged.

Read an article last week about manual underwriting, where a real person looks at your whole story, not just the number. It's like what @corah75 said, some loan officers care more about the reason behind the mess than the mess itself. My cousin got approved because he showed twelve straight months of rent payments to his aunt, even with a thin file. The system feels fixed, but sometimes the right person just uses different math.
