My rent reporting service backfired on a mortgage pre approval

I signed up for that rent reporting service last fall, paid $75 a year to get my rent payments onto my credit report. Thought it would help me look better before applying for a mortgage in Denver. Instead, it lowered my score by 14 points because the service reported a late payment that my landlord actually waived. I had to dispute it and it took 6 weeks to get fixed. Has anyone else seen these services hurt more than help when you're trying to buy?
