PSA: don't pay $300 for a credit repair program that just tells you to dispute stuff

I signed up with a company called CreditFixPros back in March 2022, wasted $300 over 3 months before I realized they were literally just sending form letters to the credit bureaus. I could've done the same thing for free with a template off Reddit. Has anyone else gotten burned by these overpriced services that promise the moon but just mail out disputes?

My buddy paid $250 for someone to rewrite his credit dispute letters for him.

$250 is a lot of cash for some letters when you can just use a template off Credit Karma or a subreddit for free. The credit bureaus don't care how fancy your dispute is written, they just scan for matching info. @morganmartinez, I bet your buddy could have spent that money on a secured card or paying down a balance instead of paying someone to type stuff up. Half the time those services just copy and paste boilerplate anyway. You really think a form letter is gonna get a different result than what you can write yourself? It's not brain surgery, it's basically just filling out a form.
