That $30 credit repair kit from a shady website actually fixed my report
I was super skeptical when my buddy swore by some random $30 kit he found on a forum. Thought it was gonna be a scam like those late night infomercials. But I had a bogus collection from an old apartment in Austin tanking my score by 40 points. Followed the template letters step by step, disputed it, and the thing vanished in 3 weeks. Has anyone else tried one of those cheap DIY kits and had it actually work?

I've seen those kits floating around and the templates are usually based on the FCRA dispute process, which is legit if you do it right. But just a heads up, they don't always work for everything. A bogus collection from a past rental is the kind of thing that often falls off easy with a proper dispute because the original debt is old and the reporting company might not have the paperwork to back it up. Your mileage may vary if it's something more recent or attached to a credit card.

Had a buddy try one of those kits for a medical bill that got sent to collections by mistake. He followed the letter and the whole thing disappeared in like two weeks. Said it felt too easy compared to the headache he was expecting.
