He told me he'd rather rent to someone with a 620 who can explain their late payments than a 720 who ghosts him on maintenance issues. Got me thinking - do actual landlords even care about the number that much, or is it all about the story behind it?

Isn't it funny how we get so caught up in a number that we forget it's really just a summary of your past? I used to think a high score meant you were automatically a safe bet, but hearing stories like this makes me realize the person behind the payment history matters a whole lot more. Totally agree with what you're saying. The number can make you feel like you've got things figured out, but it doesn't show the whole picture of someone's life. It's easy to forget that good decisions and bad luck both get wrapped up in the same score.
