That old credit repair seminar in Detroit flipped my whole approach
I drove three hours to a cramped church basement in Detroit back in 2015 for a credit repair workshop run by some retired banker. He showed us how one phone call to a mortgage underwriter with a specific script got a 30 point score jump on a disputed late payment. Has anyone else seen a huge difference by talking directly to lenders instead of just mailing disputes?

The script is the secret, not the person you call.

It's wild how having the right words changes everything, from disputes to just asking for a raise.

That retired banker's script idea sounds similar to something I read in a consumer finance book a few years back. The author talked about how underwriters have a lot of discretion, and a polite, well-timed call can sometimes get a manual review of your file. I remember a story in the book where a guy got a foreclosure notation removed just by explaining his situation over the phone and sending in a written statement. The scripts help you sound reasonable and prepared, not like you're just fighting the system. It makes sense that talking to a real person would work better than a form letter that gets sorted into a stack.
