TIL paying $89 for a credit repair 'expert' was a complete scam vs. the $30 DIY route I almost didn't try
I paid a guy $89 to fix a late payment on my credit report, and he did nothing except tell me to mail a letter I could've written myself. Then I spent 3 hours and $30 on postage doing it my own way, and the error got removed in 8 weeks. So which is it - do these services ever actually do anything extra, or are they all just preying on people?

89 bucks for a letter you could print at home, that's the scam.

My cousin actually paid for one of those resume builder sites last month, thought he was getting some professional edge. Spent like 60 bucks and ended up with a template that looked exactly like the free one I found on Google Docs in like 5 minutes. He was so mad he called the customer service line and the guy on the phone basically laughed at him.
