Unpopular opinion: I was paying a credit repair company $99 a month and doing all the work myself
I signed up with a repair outfit back in March and for 6 months I handed them $99 a month to send dispute letters. Last week I got a copy of the letters in the mail and realized they were just form templates I could have printed myself, and two of my accounts hadn't even been sent. The tip off was when I called to ask about a collection on my report from 2019 and the guy on the phone couldn't even tell me which bureau it was on. That's when it clicked that I had been paying $594 total for basically nothing, and my score moved maybe 12 points the whole time. I'm handling the disputes on my own now but I'm honestly nervous I'll mess up the wording. Has anyone here gone from a paid service to doing it yourself and actually gotten things deleted without a pro?
