Update: My credit score finally hit 680 after three years of work

Three years ago in Phoenix, I had a 540 score and thought buying a house was a joke. Last month, I paid off the last of my old medical debt, about $1,200. I checked my score this morning and saw the number. It's just a number, but it means I can actually look at FHA loans now. Anyone else get stuck on medical collections for way too long?

Paying medical bills in full was the only thing that moved my score.

See, that's the thing about credit scores, @paul_ramirez - they punish honest people for things outside their control.

That's wild how that works, huh. My buddy had a medical bill go to collections over a stupid coding error. Took him months of calling to get it fixed, and his score tanked the whole time. Felt like he was being punished for their mistake. The whole system seems backwards sometimes.
