Was dead set against credit repair services until I saw my neighbor's results

My neighbor in Dallas used a credit repair housing program to fix her score from 580 to 720 in 4 months, and she closed on a house last week. What convinced me was seeing the actual dispute letters they sent and how they handled old medical collections. Has anyone else here had success with a structured program vs going it alone?

...and that's exactly what I used to think too, @williamw75. But then I watched my brother try to do it on his own for six months and he barely budged 30 points. Meanwhile this program his friend used got a 50 year old car loan paid off ages ago completely wiped from his report in two weeks. I still think people can do it themselves if they have the time and patience, but not everyone has that.

A 50 year old car loan that was already paid off getting wiped in two weeks sounds less like finding errors and more like they got lucky with a creditor who didn't bother to respond within the 30 day window. I've seen a few people go through those programs and a lot of times it's a mixed bag. Some of them just send the same form letters you could write yourself, but they charge you $99 a month for the privilege. The one thing I will give them is that they keep at it when a normal person would give up after the first denial.

Honestly, those programs just find errors that you could dispute yourself for free.
