Dropped $80 on that NXIVM documentary box set and it actually helped my sister leave her group
I'm not big on buying physical media in 2024, but I grabbed the NXIVM doc set for $80 at a used shop in Sacramento back in March. My younger sister had been getting deep into a "life coaching" group for about 8 months, and every time I tried to talk to her about it she shut me down. She wouldn't watch YouTube clips or listen to podcasts, but she will sit down for a DVD because that's just how she is. We watched all of it over two weekends, and something clicked when she saw the branding stuff and the collateral. She started asking questions on her own instead of me pushing. She left the group two months ago and I honestly think that $80 did more than a year of me arguing with her. Has anyone else used a documentary as a way to get through to someone in a group? I'm curious what actually works when talking fails.
Wait, she actually watched the whole thing? That's wild to me because the NXIVM footage with the branding is rough to sit through. I've heard the DOS stuff got way worse than what made it on screen too. The fact that she asked her own questions instead of you having to drag it out of her is the part that gets me.
