Got into it with a cousin who joined a church group last year

My cousin Sarah moved to Austin in 2023 and started going to this place called New Day Fellowship. I thought it was just a normal church until she told me last week they require members to hand over 20 percent of their paycheck. She said it was for "spiritual cleansing" but I looked it up and found articles about them controlling who members can talk to. Has anyone else had a family member get pulled into something that seemed normal at first?

20 percent sounds extreme but Sarah's an adult who can make her own choices.

20 percent is actually the standard tipping rate for large parties not individual service though.
