I called B.S. on that new HBO docuseries about the Twin Flames cult, then watched 3 episodes back to back
When my sister told me to watch the Twin Flames thing on HBO, I rolled my eyes because I figured it was just another overhyped cult doc that would stretch 40 minutes of story into 4 hours. I've sat through so many of these shows that pad things out with dramatic music and weird reenactments, so I skipped it for two weeks. Then she sent me a clip of the part where the couple charged people $12,000 for a retreat and promised them they'd meet their soulmate, and I got sucked in. What sold me was the actual voicemails and texts from the survivors, they played the real recordings of the leaders saying stuff like "your twin flame is waiting for you in this container" and it sounded so dumb on paper but you could hear how much people wanted it to be true. I went from eye rolling to sitting there for three hours straight watching what happened to these folks, and the way the leaders slowly cut people off from their families felt way too familiar if you've read any other cult stories. Finished the whole thing in one weekend, which I never do. Has anyone else watched it and felt like the docuseries actually did a decent job with the survivor interviews, or did it feel too glossed over for you?
