My aunt's $500 'inner peace' seminar was a love bombing setup

She told me it would help with my anxiety, but by day two they were asking for another $200 for 'advanced healing' and wanted me to recruit my coworkers. Has anyone else had a family member push them into something that felt off from the start?

Classic bait and switch. That's how these things work, they get you hooked with the low price then hit you with upsells before you can think straight. Best move is to tell your aunt you're out and make it clear you won't be pressured into anything else.

@davis.olivia might be right that some places have legit low-cost plans without the hard sell. But the way this setup works - you sit through a 90 minute spiel in a room with bad coffee and the whole experience is designed to wear you down. So the real question is how do you know if you're walking into a genuine deal or a pressure cooker before you give up your Saturday afternoon for it?

Maybe it's not always a trap though. Some places just genuinely have a good deal on a basic plan and the add-ons are optional extras, not pressure tactics. Have you ever seen a family member get a legitimately decent price from one of these setups?
