Old conman told me cults use the same script as boiler room scams

A guy I arrested for arson years ago who used to run phone scams told me cult leaders follow the same playbook: isolate you, create urgency, then demand loyalty. I laughed it off until I watched a documentary on NXIVM and saw the exact same tactics. Has anyone else noticed how similar the recruitment language is between those two worlds?

The love bombing part is real, but it's not always romantic. Sometimes it's just someone acting like your best friend really fast so you trust them before they ask for money.

You think twice about how people get sucked in" - yeah, that's the thing that gets me. Once you see the pattern, you can't unsee it. It starts with small stuff like love bombing or fake friendship, then slowly they start questioning your own judgment. Before you know it, you're defending them to people who care about you. I've watched friends drift into MLM stuff and it's the same creepy gradual shift. The urgency part is the real killer though. Both sides push that "act now or miss your chance" nonsense to override your better instincts.
