Rant: Paid $300 for a 'private witness seminar' that was just a sales pitch

Signed up for this weekend thing in Phoenix, some former member was supposed to break down how groups recruit. Turned out 40 minutes in, the guy was pushing his own $2,000 coaching program and kept dodging direct questions about his old group's finances. I walked out during the break, but the worst part is he had real stories, just buried under the upselling. Has anyone else gone to a so-called deprogramming talk and ended up feeling like the target audience?

That sounds about right. These things always end up being a funnel for something pricier. Next time, check if the speaker has a paid program before you buy a ticket. If they mention coaching, mentoring, or a course anywhere in their bio, assume the whole talk is just a preview. Also, try asking them a super specific question, like about their exit strategy or legal stuff, if they deflect more than once, that's your cue to leave. You can also look up if they've done free podcasts or interviews, usually the real info is there anyway. Sucks you wasted the cash, but at least you didn't drop the two grand.
