That $900 'memoir workshop' was just a pipeline into a self-help group

Signed up in Denver last spring thinking I'd get editing feedback, ended up with a leader who literally said 'your doubts are the enemy' during a group call. Has anyone else noticed these writing retreats doubling as recruitment fronts, or did I just pick the wrong one?

Wait, "your doubts are the enemy?" That's literally what the guy said out loud to a group of paying people? I would've laughed right in the middle of the call.

$900 for a pep talk with extra steps? Sounds like you paid a cult membership fee and got a notebook instead of a refund.
