The one ex-member in Las Vegas who made me doubt the survivor narrative

I sat next to a guy named Rick at a diner near the Strip after a Q&A panel, and he told me he left the group in 2019 but still pays their childcare co-op fund every month. He admitted the leader was controlling, but said the community pulled him out of a 15 year gambling hole that no therapist could touch. Has anyone else heard from ex-members who actually miss the structure, or is that just this one weird case?
