TIL the Moonies still own a ton of property in New York state

I was reading this article about Unification Church holdings and found out they own like 200 acres in Ulster County alone. Has anyone else looked into how these groups keep their real estate empires quiet?

I looked up my county clerk's office records once and found 47 pages of property transfers from 1987 nobody had touched in decades. The filing cabinet was literally in a closet behind the break room, not even locked. It's wild how much stuff just sits there with zero attention.

and it's even crazier when you actually dig through those old records. i found a lien on a property from like 1992 that was never cleared, the county had literally forgotten about it. the clerk didn't even know where the key to the storage room was. stuff just sits in those filing cabinets for decades until someone actually looks at it. it's like a treasure hunt for anyone willing to do the legwork. have you ever found anything wild like that in your clerk's office?
