Wasted $2,500 on a personal growth seminar that was just a recruiting pipeline

I signed up for a 3-day seminar in Phoenix called 'Ascend Leadership Intensive' after a friend from my old job kept pushing it. By day two they were pressuring everyone to join a $10k advanced program and I realized it was basically a multi-level marketing setup in disguise. Has anyone else run into these 'self help' groups that feel more like a sales funnel than actual therapy?

Ten grand for the advanced program" is insane, I would have walked out right there.
