Forgot my laptop at a coffee shop in Portland for 15 minutes
I was at Heart Roasters on 12th last week and stepped outside to take a call. Came back in 15 minutes and my laptop was still sitting there on the table. But the guy next to me said someone picked it up, looked at it, and put it back down. That freaked me out because I don't even have a password on the lock screen. I set up a PIN and turned on Find My Device as soon as I got home. Does anyone here use a Kensington lock for their laptop when they work in public?

Yeah I started using one after I left my bag at a library for like 20 minutes and came back to find someone had unzipped it but didn't take anything. Got a cheap Kensington off Amazon and honestly it's just nice knowing a random person can't just walk off with it while I'm in line for coffee. Peace of mind is worth the little bit of hassle.

Funny you mention that because I actually read somewhere that laptop thefts from coffee shops and libraries are way more common than people think. Something like a laptop gets swiped every 53 seconds in the US or some crazy stat like that. It stuck with me cause I used to be one of those people who thought "nah it's fine, I'm right here." But you're not always watching, especially when you're juggling a drink and trying to pay. That one time you had your bag unzipped is exactly the kind of wakeup call most people need before they learn the hard way. Peace of mind is underrated even if it's just a ten dollar cable keeping your stuff from walking off while you're grabbing a refill.

Man that stat is wild! @lucasw84 you got me paranoid now, I'm about to start chaining my laptop to the table like a bike just to grab a muffin.
