From my experience, forcing password updates too often backfires

People just add a number or use old passwords again. What's your view on this practice?

Security rules just train people in pointless evasion.

Focusing on pointless rules blinds everyone to the real security risks out there.

Totally agree with this take. So many rules just make people find ways around them instead of actually being safe. It's like when you have to change your password every month and end up writing it on a sticky note. That doesn't help anyone and just adds more hassle. Makes you wonder if the people making these rules ever have to follow them. Really hits home how broken some of these systems are.

Ugh yeah @miller.diana, this is so real. I mean I literally have a notebook where I just write all my new passwords down, which defeats the whole point right? Maybe it's just me but I can't keep up.
