Hot take: I was reading an old forum archive from 2006 and saw a post where someone said they'd never use a password longer than 8 characters because it was 'overkill'.
I found it on a digital preservation site, and it just hit me how much the baseline advice has shifted from 'maybe use a capital letter' to today's passphrases and mandatory 2FA.

Which one do you use? I've been meaning to set one up but they all look the same to me.

And now we're all basically walking around with 30 character passwords for our toaster apps. 8 characters not enough? Try remembering 8 different ones. My password manager knows more about me than my mom does.
