I used to think my router password didn't matter until my neighbor's kid got into my network.
I had the default 'admin' and 'password' combo for years, then my smart TV started showing weird search history last Tuesday. I changed it to a 12-character mix of letters and numbers, and the problem stopped. How often do you guys actually change your router passwords?

Read an article calling default passwords a welcome mat for hackers.

My cousin's baby monitor got hacked because their router still used the factory password.

Actually, the factory password on the router is the main issue. That's the front door to the whole network. Once someone gets in there, they can see every device connected to it, including the baby monitor. Changing the monitor's own password won't help if the router is wide open. It's like locking your bedroom door but leaving the house key under the mat.

Great, now I have a new thing to stress about at 2am. "House key under the mat" hits way too close to home because mine was literally a sticker on the bottom of the router with the default password printed on it. I used to think I was being clever by changing the baby monitor password every week, but I never touched the router settings. So basically I was just locking my bedroom door while leaving the front door wide open and a neon sign pointing to it. Guess I should go change that before my smart fridge starts judging me.
