I used to think password managers were a scam until my crypto wallet got cleaned out

Last month I lost about $400 in some random token because I reused a password from like 2019. Found out through a friend who works in IT that someone probably got it from a data breach. I always thought password managers were overkill and just a way to get you to pay monthly fees. But after seeing how easy it is to get drained, I finally tried Bitwarden's free version. Took me maybe 20 minutes to set up and now I don't have to remember 20 different passwords. Has anyone else had a close call that made them switch?

Wait didn't I read somewhere that like 80% of hacking is from reused passwords? I saw that stat pop up on a tech news site a few months back. Anyway yeah I had a similar wake up call when my old Netflix account got taken over by some rando in Brazil. That was annoying but losing actual money is way worse. Bitwarden is good though, I switched after trying a few and it just works without bugging me to upgrade.

That stat is legit. 80% sounds about right from what I've seen. Biggest thing is just let the password manager make up random ones. Change the important logins first. Bank, email, that stuff. Do a few a week so it's not overwhelming.

Oh it's always the little things that get you, isn't it? We lock our front doors but then use the same password on a dozen sites like it's nothing.
