My friend told me to turn on 2FA for my email and I almost didn't listen

He said it last year after his own account got hit. I set it up anyway, and just last month someone tried to log in from a city I've never been to. The app on my phone gave me the alert and I hit 'deny' right away. If I hadn't added that extra step, they would have gotten in for sure. Do you think 2FA is the best single thing you can do, or is there something else that's just as important?

Isn't 2FA just a hassle for most people? It adds another step every time you log in, and losing your phone locks you out completely. A strong, unique password is simpler and just as secure if you manage it right.

Wait, did you just say a strong password is just as secure? That's wild after what happened to xena831's friend. Most people reuse passwords or pick easy ones, so 2FA is the backup that actually stops someone who guesses it. Yeah it's a hassle, but getting your account cleaned out is a bigger one lol. Losing your phone sucks, but every good service gives you backup codes for exactly that.
