Password manager vs. paper notebook, which one actually keeps you safer?

I've been going back and forth on this for weeks after a friend in Denver got locked out of his vault and lost two days of work. I know the cloud sync is convenient, but I can't shake the feeling that a physical book can't be hacked remotely. Has anyone else made the switch and regretted it, or found a middle ground?

That bit about your friend in Denver getting locked out is exactly why I made the switch last year. I had a similar scare with a password vault that wouldn't sync right before a big client call, so I grabbed a cheap notebook and never looked back. The peace of mind from knowing nobody can touch it unless they break into my house is worth way more than the convenience of autofill.

Three weeks ago my neighbor's kid found his mom's sticky note list taped under the keyboard and guessed her email password on the first try because it was literally "password123." So the notebook method only works if you hide it somewhere smarter than a desk drawer or a sock. I get the appeal of paper, I really do, but a vault that syncs is a different kind of peace of mind. You just have to test the sync before you're in a rush, not after. And maybe keep a spare key to the house safe, not the same one you use for the garage.
