Saw someone reuse a password from 2018 on their bank account today

I help people reset their accounts at my IT job, and I can't believe how many folks still use passwords they made like 7 years ago. Have you ever checked how many times your old passwords show up in breach lists?

Run your email through haveibeenpwned and change any passwords that show up there.

My cousin used the same password from her MySpace days on her banking app and I almost screamed when she told me. I ran her old email through haveibeenpwned and it came back with 12 breaches dating back to 2016. Some people just don't realize those old passwords are basically public knowledge by now.

@the_viola yeah I've seen that. Tell her to grab a password manager, it's cheap peace of mind.

I read somewhere that 80% of breaches are linked to reused passwords from other sites. @the_viola that MySpace to banking pipeline is terrifying but I swear half the people I help have done the same thing.
