Talked to a friend who got scammed by a fake text
My buddy in Austin got a text that looked like it was from his bank, asking him to click a link to fix a problem with his account. He clicked it, typed in his info, and they cleaned out his checking account before he even realized it was fake. How do you guys check if a text is real before you even think about clicking anything?

Honestly, that sounds like your friend just wasn't paying attention.

Feel for anyone who gets caught by those scams. The messages look so real sometimes, it's easy to miss the small details. Slowing down is definitely the key, like Terry said.

My cousin lost maybe fifty bucks to a phishing email once. Banks have real ways to contact you, they don't just send random links out of the blue. It seems like common sense to me. If you get a weird text, just call the bank directly using the number on your card. That solves it. Most people just need to slow down and not panic.
