The day my boss caught me using 'Password123' on a client server...
I work IT for a small law firm in Cleveland, about 30 people. Last Tuesday I was remoted into a server to fix a printer issue and my boss walked by. He saw I logged in with Password123 and just stood there staring at me. I thought I was being clever keeping it simple for quick access. He made me change all 12 admin passwords that afternoon and write a 3 page password policy doc. Worst part is I knew better, just got lazy. Anyone else have that moment where you got caught cutting corners?

Three years back I had to explain to my principal why I set the wifi password to "password1" for an entire grade level field trip. Got the same dead stare you did. Sometimes the lazy shortcut just feels worth it until you see their face.

Oh man, that dead stare is the worst. Did you at least have a backup excuse ready or were you just caught completely flat footed like I was? I always wonder if people who do this stuff think they'll never get walked in on or if they just stop caring after a long week. Seems like you got off easy with just a policy rewrite though, my old boss made me present my "security failures" to the whole team like it was a school report.
