TIL I got 412 spam texts in 3 months and only 2 were real delivery updates
I finally counted last week after my phone storage filled up. Out of 412 texts since June, 2 were actual package updates and the other 410 were someone pretending to be USPS or my bank. Half of them came from the same area code out of Fresno. So here is the debate I keep having with my brother. He says just never click links in texts and you are fine. I say the smarter move is to turn on filtering and report every single one so the carriers actually do something. Which one really keeps you safer, ignoring them or reporting them?

Man, my buddy went through the exact same thing last year. He never clicked a single link, figured he was safe just ignoring them. But he got hit anyway because one of those fake USPS texts came in while he was actually waiting on a package, and he opened it without thinking. Cost him about 200 bucks before his bank caught the weird charges. He reports every one now and says his spam texts dropped a lot after a couple months of doing it. So from what I saw, reporting seems to actually do something over time, but ignoring works too as long as you never slip up. Your brother is right that not clicking is the main thing, but reporting helps everybody else too.
