Vent: Used to click every email link like it was nothing, now I scan everything with VirusTotal first

Back in 2020 I got hit with a clipboard hijacker from a fake shipping notification. Lost access to my crypto wallet for 3 days before I figured it out. Now I never click a single link in an email unless I paste it into VirusTotal first. Even then I hover over the URL to check for misspellings like amaz0n or paypa1. That one attack cost me about $200 in transaction fees to recover everything. Has anyone else had a similar wake up call from a phishing attempt?

$200 in transaction fees just to unlock your own wallet, that is brutal. I thought I had it bad when I lost a $50 Steam gift card to a fake login page. But having your actual crypto locked up for days, that is a nightmare I never want to live through. I would have been panicking the whole time.

you said that $200 in transaction fees was brutal, and I get it sounds bad, but honestly, i mean how many people are actually sitting on crypto wallets worth recovering? @kimw57, maybe it's just me, but if a clipboard hijacker hit me and i lost like $50 in crypto i probably wouldn't even bother trying to get it back. idk, i feel like people act like every phishing attack is the end of the world when half the time it's just a minor inconvenience and a lesson learned. like yeah it sucked for three days, but you're acting like you lost your life savings.
