The guy running the leather shop in the dying mall in Tulsa grabbed my wrist and said one thing I can't shake
Stopped by the basically empty Promenade Mall in Tulsa on a Tuesday afternoon, and the only light on in the whole place came from a leather goods shop that's been there since 1984. The owner, a guy named Ray, was hand stitching a belt and noticed me eyeing a display of wallets, so he waved me over and asked where I was from. When I mentioned I was just passing through on a work trip, he grabbed my wrist, flipped it over, and pointed at a watch I'd bought three years ago that I honestly never think about wearing. "Son, this mall is gonna die and nobody will remember what I sold in here, but you'll still be wearing that watch when I'm gone, so buy stuff that outlasts you," he said, and then he just went back to stitching like he hadn't said anything at all. Does anyone else have a dead mall vendor who hit them with something that stuck way longer than the mall itself did?
