Pro tip: that countdown timer on a flash sale resets when you reload the page
I was poking around a site selling a $70 camping stove last month and noticed the "sale ends in 2 hours" clock kept starting over every time I refreshed. So I left the tab open through dinner, came back around 8pm, and it was still showing 2 hours left, which means the whole thing was fake. I did some digging and a guy on a deal forum in Sacramento said most of these clocks run off a script that resets per visitor, so the pressure is all in your head. Now I just save the item, close the tab, and check back a week later to see if the "final" price moved at all. Out of 5 sales I tracked that way, 4 of them dropped the price again or ran the same deal within 10 days. If the timer is the main reason you are buying, that is a red flag, not a deal. Has anyone else seen a countdown clock that never actually ends?
Ha, yeah those fake timers are everywhere. I watch a site that resets the clock every single visit, been "ending soon" for like two years now. Total theater.
