The 30% off 'members only' price was just the normal price all along

I was about to grab a router kit on a flash sale site last week and it said I needed to join their free club to unlock 30% off. So I made an account and the price dropped from $89 to $62. Then I checked the same kit on the brand's own website with a simple Google search. Same model, same $62 price, no club required, just sitting there regular. I looked at the Wayback Machine from three months back and it was $62 then too. How many people actually fall for this fake urgency stuff, or do sites just rely on us not checking two tabs?
