Saw a $19 drone on a flash sale at 11pm, ordered it, then checked my bank at 8am
I was scrolling on my phone in bed when I saw a camera drone marked down from $149 to $19 on a site I'd never heard of. The timer said 4 minutes left, so I panic bought it with my debit card. At 8am I looked at my account and there were two charges, $19 and $19, from two different company names. I called my bank right away and they froze the card, and it turns out the second charge was a "membership fee" buried in the fine print. I got the money back after 5 days but the drone never showed up, and the site was gone a week later. The fake countdown timer is the tell, they always say 3 minutes left no matter when you look. Has anyone figured out a way to spot these fake urgency countdowns before you hand over a card number?
