I changed my mind about those park usage stats after visiting Piedmont Park in Atlanta last Saturday

Saw a guy with a clipboard counting people at every entrance and realized those viral 'park visitor numbers' are probably way off since they miss folks like me cutting through the side paths. Has anyone else caught these counters in action and noticed how they skip the unofficial routes?

Totally get this. I've seen the same thing at our local park and it definitely makes you question those official numbers. The counters are usually stationed at the main gates but they miss all the people coming in from the neighborhood paths or the parking lot overflow. Good for you for noticing and pointing it out, it's easy to take those stats as gospel. It's nice to know I'm not the only one who feels like the real story is different from what gets reported.

@val_ramirez brings up a good point. Try counting on a Tuesday morning, you'll see the real numbers.
